             what we believe

Wooden Cross in Sunbeams
The people of Grace United Methodist Church affirm and confess the following affirmations with other Christians and churches:
  • We confess salvation in and through Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
  • We believe in God’s redemptive love, in human life by the activity of the Holy Spirit, both in personal experience and in the community of believers.
  • We believe that through faith in Jesus Christ, we are forgiven, reconciled to God, and transformed as people of the new covenant.
  • We believe that “living in the Spirit” involves the faithful use of the means of grace, such as praying, fasting, attending to the sacraments, and inward search for solitude. It also encompasses the communal life of the church in worship, mission, study, evangelism, witness, and service.
  • We believe as members of the United Methodist Church we are part of Christ’s universal church.
  • We are initiated and incorporated into the church by baptism, receiving the promise of the Spirit that recreates and transforms us.
  • Through Holy Communion, we participate in the risen presence of Jesus Christ and thereby are nourished for faithful discipleship and service.
  • We believe in the coming kingdom of God in this life and in the life to come.
  • We recognize the authority of Scripture in matters of faith and practice.
Grace United Methodist Church is part of the United Methodist Church, the second largest Protestant denomination in the United States ( www.umc.org ). To learn more about other foundational doctrines of the United Methodist Church, go to www.umc.org.
